Applications
Archiving
The L700e library is an efficient, high-capacity repository for archival data. It can be combined with disk systems and StorageTek Application Storage Manager™ (ASM) software to provide a tiered archival system with performance and capacity customized to the archiving needs of the application.
Fixed content distribution
The L700e library can act as a high-volume source for fixed content data, especially when outfitted with fast-access T9840 tape drives. High-speed fixed content distribution systems can utilize the L700e library in a disk-and-tape storage environment controlled by Application Storage Manager (ASM) software to reduce costs without impacting performance.
Disaster recovery
The L700e library is an integral part of disaster recovery processes that remotely vault data in tape form. Tapes can be physically transported to a remote site, created electronically with an L700e library at the remote location, or created simultaneously at both locations.
Backup and restore
The L700e library, configured with tape drives and tape media, provides backup and recovery for for larger distributed, Open Systems, UNIX and Windows NT environments. Backup and restore can be consolidated from multiple smaller systems to reduce costs and simplify management.

Benefits
Increased capacity
A unique pass-through-port (PTP) enables you to connect two L700e tape libraries, allowing expansion to 1,344 cartridges slots, essentially doubling your capacity.
Unlimited access
The L700e library has a native two-gigabit Fibre Channel optical interface. Combine it with the StorageTek native two-gigabyte Fibre Channel T9840 and T9940 tape drives and you have an all-Fibre solution to speed data access.
Faster backup, restore, archiving
With a maximum dual-frame configuration, the L700e library moves data at rates as high 5.04 terabytes per hour. This dramatic throughput helps you accelerate backup, restore and archiving.
Unparalleled flexibility
The L700e library provides concurrent support for multiple tape drive technologies and multiple cartridge types, so you never have to change tape slots, software or robotics.

A SAN-ready solution, the L700e library provides two-gigabit Fibre Channel connectivity and support for dynamic world wide naming (dWWN) for the library and Fibre Channel drives.
Mixed-media support
Support of concurrent multiple StorageTek tape drive technologies let you put the right data on the right device at the right cost. StorageTek tape drive technologies include StorageTek T9840, StorageTek T9940, LTO Ultrium Generations 1 and 2, SDLT, DLT.

Software

StorageTek Automated Cartridge System Library Manager software (ACSLS Manager)
StorageTek ACSLS Manager™ is a UNIX-based library-management application for mainframe, AS/400, UNIX and NT platforms. ACSLS Manager software functions as the central service provider for all library operations. It efficiently shares library resources with any application on any system

StorageTek Library Manager software
StorageTek Library Manager software provides simplified management of tape libraries and lower operations costs with the ability to share resources between applications.
