Applications
Backup and restore
The L40 library, configured with tape drives and tape media, provides backup and recovery for departments, applications and small data center environments using Windows, Novell, Linux and UNIX operating systems.
Disaster recovery
L40 library backup tapes can be stored offsite, providing low-cost disaster protection in distributed Windows, Novell, Linux and UNIX environments.

Benefits
Easy expandability
As your needs grow, you can easily add drives or cartridges, advance to new drive technologies or swap to a larger library at a reduced price.
Enhanced data protection
With its unmatched reliability and hands-free automation, the L40 library helps you keep Open Systems data protected and available.
Space, cost savings
With the capacity to store up to eight terabytes in a single unit, the L40 library lets you store more data in less physical rack space, saving you both space and money.
Ease of use
Any administrator can install, configure and operate the L40 library. Remote monitoring and diagnostic tools simplify management.

Features
Standard features:
Adaptive media technology
Support for multiple tape drive technologies lets you mix and match tape technologies and migrate data seamlessly within the same library. The L40 library supports LTO Ultrium® Generations 1 and 2, SDLT 220, SDLT 320, DLT 8000
SAN-readiness
An embedded Fibre Channel router enables you to connect the L40 library to a storage area network for increased scalability, availability and share-ability.
SNMP trap
An embedded SNMP agent facilitates network management and notification over an Ethernet connection.
Library Status Tool
This tool’s web-based remote diagnostic capabilities help you reduce operational costs and enhance reliability.

Software

StorageTek Library Manager software
StorageTek Library Manager software provides simplified management of tape libraries and lower operations costs with the ability to share resources between applications.
