StorageNet 6000 storage domain manager |
The
StorageTek® StorageNet® 6000 (SN6000) storage domain
manager with Virtual Transport Manager (VTM) software
enables more efficient management of tape resources.
This intelligent tape administration tool isolates
servers from changes to the tape environment, allowing
for heterogeneous support, reduced hardware and software
needs and increased data availability. |

|
Applications |
Disaster
recovery
The SN6000 domain manager is an integral part of
site-wide disaster recovery processes that remotely
vault data in tape form. Tape Mirroring software
automatically replicates tapes at multiple
locations, reducing management costs and risks.
|
Backup
and restore
The SN6000 domain manager with Virtual Transport
Manager (VTM) software enables multiple backup
applications to share tape assets, consolidating
Open Systems backup and restore across a data center
or an enterprise. Costs are reduced and
enterprise-wide data protection is more readily
managed. |
|
|
Benefits |
Centralized administration and management
With a single point of control, you can streamline
management, reduce costs and eliminate the need to
reconfigure your server environment. |
High data
availability
Applications have less downtime because they are
isolated from storage administration and
configuration. |
Reduced
costs
The SN6000 domain manager’s ability to pool
resources, increase tape drive utilization and
simplify management can cut conventional SAN costs
in half. |
Increased
data protection
Optional tape mirroring software increases layers of
reliability, improving successful backups and
restores with no impact on your backup windows. |
|
|
Features |
Scalability
Adding an interface to the SN6000 domain manager
provides the processing power you need to gain
additional storage management capabilities—without
reconfiguring the front end. |
Tape
mirroring software
The SN6000 domain manager uses tape mirroring
software to transfer data simultaneously to two
physical tape volumes. This helps ensure successful
backups and restores without impacting servers,
applications or backup windows. |
Easily
upgradeable
Equipment can be added to the SAN from one location
without affecting other parts of the network. |
Heterogeneous platform support
With the SN6000, your UNIX- and Windows NT-based
storage devices and servers can use one centrally
managed pool of tape assets. |
Number of
Fibre Channel interfaces
Configurable to 64 (up to 16 boards with four Fibre
Channel interfaces per board) |
Redundant
components
Redundant management processor
Redundant fabric module
Redundant power supply with independent power input |
|
|
Software |
Virtual Transport Manager software
StorageTek Virtual Transport Manager (VTM) software
works with the SN6000 domain manager to enable a shared
backup and restore environment for Open Systems
enterprises that improves tape utilization and is easier
to manage. VTM lets you share tape devices across all of
your Unix and NT servers, as well as across multiple
backup applications. |
Tape Mirroring software
Tape Mirroring software works with the SN6000 domain
manager and VTM software to simplify and automate the
tape replication process, making data safer and less
expensive to protect. Tape Mirroring replicates tape
volumes with less staff than other methods. Tape is
replicated independent of the backup application and is
resilient to errors during backup and during
restoration. |
